God, Worship+

This post is part of the weekly Sunday Setlists blog carnival over at FredMckinnon.com. Go and check out the other setlists too!

I know I’m repeating myself. We had a big, awesome day in church. Of course, now that we’re called Awesome Church, every day will be a big, awesome day. :)

We had the honour of having Dr David van Koevering take both our meetings today. If you don’t know who he is (and you likely don’t recognise his name unless you’re an electronic music freak. Like me.), then look him up here, here, and here. You can also find lots of him on YouTube…like this simple explanation of tachyons. You all know all about them already though, right?

Music

Sunday AM
1. For Your Glory (Pringle / C3)
2. Happy Day (Hughes, Cantelon)
3. Where You Go, I Go (Johnson, Mohr / Bethel)
4. He Is Lord (Fielding / Hillsong)
5. Awesome God / Perfect Son (Mullins, Reddy)
…then following tithes, offerings, news…
6. Happy Day (reprise)
…and for the end of service
7. He Is Lord (reprise)

Sunday PM
1. Shout You Praise (Orosa, Araullo, Reddy / Awesome Church)
2. You’ll Come (Fraser / Hillsong)
3. He Is Lord (Fielding / Hillsong)
…then following tithes, offerings, news…
3. Who Tha King? (Reddy, Losurdo, Costello / Awesome Church)

Worship+
We didn’t have Worship+ in its normal format, as the ministry time from the night service extended on with Dr van Koevering’s synthesised music of the table of elements (yes, you read that right) and his plasma hand screens. Amazing. Sorry, I mean … awesome!

Other Stuff

Interesting that on a day we had a sound expert, and particularly as sounds relates to all matter (remember Switchfoot’s “Everything Is Sound” album? Title inspired by all this sort of thing), we had lots of feedback “fun” for no good reason. Not really surprising I guess, since Satan likes to play these sorts of games. In addition, there was some “fun” with the computers too. Fun all round really. And awesome, of course.

So since most people who read this probably had a relatively low-key day following Independence Day, tell me all you know about tachyons.

Note for Facebook readers : remember if I post a video or song, you’ll need to actually click through to my blog to see or listen. You know you want to anyway.

Without the use of Google, I will now leave my extensive knowledge below:

I'm shocked how much you know about them Toby. I bow to your superior knowledge of the tachyonic theorem thingamy.

Or something.

Now, with the help of Google I see it has something to do with science and/or physics which explains my first expansive knowledge base.

Haha :)

You could also watch that little video I put up…though it may not enlighten you any further in any case.

It was amazing. One of those "I can't take notes because I'll miss something" services. Thankfully with Diane editing our TV program I'll be able to get a copy of it all very easily :)

You have a great week too Jan.

Truly amazing. He's promised he'll come back next time he's in Australia, so I'm really looking forward to that!. God bless you too Lori.

Okay…I missed the moment of transition or something, and literally had to go to your church's website to check to make sure that your church is, in fact, now called Awesome Church. That's…well…awesome!! And makes total sense, from my perspective.

And you KNOW that we need a track posted of Who Tha King? So give it up. :)

Hope you guys are having a blast at conference!

Tachyons cause feedback. Scotty told me.

David, you're doing several songs I don't know. So, now I must go find and learn them. thanks! :) Sounds like you had a great day of worship.
Always enjoy looking at your blog, my friend! Hope you have a great week!!

I must admit… when you said you changed the name to awesome church, I thought you were kidding at first…how is the response to the name?
You Aussies are so dang innovative….rock it out David!

I kinda snuck in the announcement back in early June, around the time I was deflecting attention by talking about our personal transition with the house thing and all that.

Jen caught it though … even if she did think it was a joke :D

And it does make a lot of sense, as well as being a great conversation starter. I had one such discussion today with one of my staff who is a JW.

Meanwhile, I've yet to hear the junkdesk recording of Who Tha King?, but I'm almost certain it won't be consumable by the public yet. But I plan on recording it in one of our August sessions, so we'll need to keep workshopping it over the next few weeks. Especially the black choir vocals bit…since we're not very black. But, this will be FUN!

Thanks LeAnn. I always enjoy your blog too, and always happy to give more songs for people to track down and decide if they'll work in their own churches too.

Hope you have a great week too!

I wondered if anyone caught that it was a serious name change. One week in, and it's having the desired effect – curiosity as to why it was chosen, what it means, wanting to come to church. Etc. Good stuff. And funny too…the kids love playing it up. We all do actually.

And I hope we are a bit innovative sometimes. I think we're getting more innovative when it comes to church, to match how innovative we've been in other areas for so long.

Innovative?? ( inNiVative as i hear many news readers prunownce it).

i can honestly say i would NEVER have thought i would see a talk on tachyons video in a Sunday Setlist blogpost – even from a fellow Aussie! ;-)

How inno VAY tive can one get? ;-)

Tachyons are theoretical (ie so far never been detected or proven to exist) faster-than-light, massless, sub-atomic 'particles' ( waveform probabilities) and so somewhat 'related' to the (known to exist) photon which is the sub atomic massless particle that travels at exactly the (theoretical maximum 'speed' in the Universe) speed of light which permits us to 'see' the Universe around us ( albeit at a very 'slow' limited 'rate' :-) . ( it would take light 28 or more billion years to travel from one 'side' of the known Universe to the other)

It is important that these particles have NO mass ( ie 'physical' existence other than their 'energy' which, if Einstein is correct, must also equal 'zero' since E = mc squared) since Einstein and Lorenz's equations for matter traveling at relativistic speeds up to the limit of the speed of light show that any mass approaching the speed of light increases to infinity as it's velocity relative to our reference frame ( and all other reference frames) approaches 'c' ( m = m at 'rest' ( v = o) times 1/square root of (v squared – c squared))

If tachyons (or something like them) do actually exist then it is feasible that information can be obtained 'here and now' of things that have not 'yet' happened on our human time line and concepts of time and space as we usually experience them.

Similarly it would be possible to 'send' information into our own past or to all intents let us gather information from two different places in space at 'the same time' or even 'ahead of time' ??

TMI??

i love physics – can you tell? :-)

Sorry – that should have read (1 – v squared DIVIDED BY c squared, and not v squared minus c squared) ;-)

TMI?

Never Love. I'm really glad you commented here, because while I understand some basic concepts of these theories, it's not a personal passion (but I have some good friends who are very into it)
