How did I get here??

God, Life 'n' That

In a very short amount of time, I’ve made a lot of new friends thanks to my newfound passion for blogging and various other social networking interwebby stuffs (it’s not an addiction, ok…no really, it’s NOT…I could give this up any time…I mean stop visiting blogs, etc anytime).

All of this started (or I should say restarted, since the whole social networking thing is really how Diane and I met in the first place WAY back at the turn of the century). Anyway, it restarted due to a desire to connect with other worship leaders from around the world. In the last week of November. 2008. Yes, 15 weeks ago. Since then I’ve started blogging, twittering, Facebooking (a bit) and updating MySpace more regularly – to keep da kids happy…

But it all started on Worship The Rock…

And I’m not just a member…I’m also an administrator.  I told you this stuff happened fast.

So if you haven’t already, come on over and check out a great site.

It’s been growing pretty quickly (at just on 3000 members, it’s nearly doubled since I joined), and the other day I got to do my first bit of serious administrating (?) when I shut down a discussion which was heading somewhere we didn’t want it to go. See, it’s not all about freedom of speech, it’s also about providing a safe place for people of all ages (there’s lots of teens and some pre-teens) to come, learn and grow in their faith in God and their worship skills. There’s no suggestion that bigger issues can’t be tackled, and there’s certainly some interesting discussions that can get a bit intense. Just as long as the primary purpose of the site – unity through worship of the only true God – is always at the heart of what’s going on.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering how a crazy Aussie got onto the admin team – it was partly because of my ability to see the lighter side of things.  So being crazy helps.

Now tell me your (brief) story. How long have you been blogging (or stalking – like I used to do a bit)? How about Twitter? Or Facebook? Or…?

I joined myspace a few years ago & ended up losing my BFF of 20 years over some drama. Up front I'll say, it was my fault. I hurt her inadvertantly. I decided to close down myspace & journal via a blog instead.

You see I have horrible handwriting & a blog seemed like a good alternative. Well it grew & I started to love the community of people. Screwed up people just like me who could help me through stuff…AND…I could help them. (please don't ask anyone if I've actually helped the…it'd ruin my excuse for being on the puter so much) It's been going for about 18 months. I don't have a lot of traffic, but it's a fun outlet for me.

Now Twitter is a diff. story. I love it. The connections w/ people are sometimes the down & dirty stuff that people don't always put on their blogs. My dry humor? Some of you all get it. It's been a great prayer chain too. Within minutes I can have 20+ people praying for me. Love it!

I've been blogging since… erm… 2004. or 03. I was blogging before I knew about blogger. Hand-coding my blog and uploading it via FTP. Haha. Then @jamestimbrell told me about blogger. There began my love/hate/love relationship with sharing my life with complete strangers.

I've also had many domain names for blogging:

1 davidsharpe.co.uk
2 damash.co.uk
3 brownjelly.co.uk (don't ask – this lasted a couple of months before i realised how bad an idea it was)
4 daviddave.com (i stupidly let this domain expire when i grew disillusioned about blogging. but have since reacquired it!)
5 daviddave.net
6 veewpe.com
7 dave8.com

crazy. i think i'm an addict.

Been Blogging for about 5-6 years, but was 'social networking' ( falling in love) via instant messaging for almost ten and an internet junkie for 11-12 years now ( it's been 24 hours since my last fix)

Only come to use my current blog name for a little under 18 months and it has been by far the most 'successful' for connecting with others.

i don't facebook or use any other such site – i find blogging consumes – er requires – all my available computer time to come close to keeping up with, having other networks with other friends would mean for me i could not keep 'track' very well – i far prefer a smaller group of closer good friends to larger numbers of not so well known ones.

I don't twitter any more because i hate hate vomit the 'mobile phone' ( i fully realise this makes me a luddite/heretic in today's world – but i can live with that) ;-) i tried twittering via the pc but for a few reasons soon found 'it ain't my bag baybee!'.

oh – riiight – you said BRIEF huh? ;-)

I love the immediacy of Twitter. This is weird coming from someone who sometimes laments how fast and impersonal the world has become (I don't think I've lamented that on Twitter or my blog), but Twitter actually helps reconcile the speed with being personal I think.

And definitely a geek Dave :) A very funny geek.

I can't see brownjelly.co.uk without thinking of D'Angelo's "Brown Sugar"…which is just wrong…

I think this qualifies as brief :D .

I realised I've been interneting for 15 years this year. I am old, and therefore can also appreciate the small-group-of-close-friends thing.

My dad hates mobile phones as well. He caved in to something (certainly not pressure from his kids) and got one though. Sometimes I get random texts from him because he's been sitting on it and managed to type "jfske" and send it to me. His buttocks are clearly very talented.

jfske? – sounds more half-arsed to me! :-)

i think if your Dad used his whole arse it would have made more sense! ;-)

lets both hope he never sends you a shitload of sms! :-)

I finally joined Facebook in December after living vicariously through Diane for a couple of years. It's been great to use to reconnect with IRL friends who live across the globe, as well as church friends. Twitter has been great for new friends though.

MySpace is just a little bit crap methinks…I'm still on there (for da kids, you understand), but I don't pay it any attention at all I don't think

i started blogging in july 2007 to compete with brent. i got so sick of hearing him brag about his blog and all these people he was meeting, i decided to start my own. ha! that'll learn him!

i twitter, too, as you know. twitteringis actually my preference nowadays. its just less demanding (not a good word to use, but im tired)

i have a FB acct. but really dont use it. my twitter updates go up on FB and that is the only "action" it gets.

and i must say…so glad you and the mrs. are on the web. its been great getting to know you!

And it's been great getting to know the #hodgeclan.

Btw, is it wrong that I can't see the phrase "getting to know you" without adding "getting to know all about you; getting to like you, getting to know you like me" from The King & I :x
