Asian Cowboy

Just For Fun, Music, Our Creative Community

You’ll remember a few weeks ago I posted my first “write-a-song-for-a-friend” song.  Well, here’s number two.

This time though, I have intentionally made it double up as my monthly song for Our Creative Community.

There’s stacks of ideas packed into the four minutes (including some crazy imagery in the lyric), but I’m especially excited about Diane’s vocal and arrangement contributions.  Oh, and the fact Crystal likes it, of course.

No cover art yet, but I’m sure that won’t be too far away.

Asian Cowboy

Picture a girl, with once pink hair
Making her way through life with vicarious fascination

She shuts the door, the freakin’ front door
Enters the world wide web where she can stalk Asians

And avoid strawberries

She’s riding gazelles, and watching Carrie Bradshaw
Though she’s seen them all before, it keeps her mind off

Diet Coke and bottled water…

Crying girls as the Backstreet Boys
Fall through the roof of the honky tonk bar
Wrapped in snuggies, meeting Leo
Lazy typing left Tinky Tiny

She shuts the door, the freaking front door
Enters the world wide web so she can stalk Asians

She rides gazelles, and watches Carrie
Sex and the City

Picture a girl, a pink haired girl
Making her way through life with
Elvis and cowboys
(Velvet Elvis, Asian Cowboy)

Yeah, that was one of the first bits I finished…I'm a total sucker for stuff like that.

Hence me wanting to do the same for "Jenni, Jenni"…which will happen, I have decided. I've no idea how to do it in that style with Garageband…so maybe I should rearrange it too…

It's funny how much "ammo" our tweets can provide.

I think you all may be eating too much beer bread. There's some crazy stuff happening over there in OZ.

The bridge is still my favorite bit. i had my mom listen to this just a few minutes ago (she works with me at the church). she laughed and knew exactly what the "meeting Leo" was referencing. she couldn't believe a person would write a song about me. and i share in the unbelief. thanks again! it is brilliant.

Best song ever. I love Diane's added bgv's…impressive! And the arrangement is awesome. You sure do know how to pull out all the stops! LOVE IT!

Or, you could just go through Crystal's Blog and read these posts and the responses, and you might be able to track most of the references.

It's always funny coming up with these things. And you don't even need Twitter to get the source for most of them.

PS…I'm still trying to work out a way to get Garageband to do yours & the GGs' song justice. I so want to record that for you :)

Crazy indeed – crazy crazy crazy nights…as Kiss once said…

The bit I enjoy most is seeing where my loony brain takes all the ammo from blogs, tweets, etc.

And the fact your mum laughed and didn't immediately get the Feds onto me…

I'm so glad Diane got involved with the BGVs. It was pretty hilarious – she's not recorded herself before. Much hilarity and lots of retakes…

it did mildly concern her that someone i've never met in real life knew so much about me. LOL.

The joys of blogging. I think it was only the gazelle thing that I didn't get from your blog or twitter.

I didn't even go back very far in your archives – most of it was from your open question post and your 25 things post.

Cool Dave – although I have absolutely no idea what most of this means!

One day I'll twitter!!!

Dave we'd love to hear that song recorded too and then you can teach me about Garageband. :)

Yes I did have a quick browse through Crystal's blog – she has been through some lately and how beautiful that you and Diane were able to pray with her so meaningfully. Special.

On a side note I just read Beth's blog. I love this post http://bethbrawleytaylor.blogspot.com/2009/03/soc... This is why I don't get to the computer to garageband or anything else at night time.
